Taylors 29 warmer

Hi, I'm in the final stages of rebuilding an old taylors paraffin cooker, but the balance jets are causing me some confusion.
The first pic shows the general arrangement. Next pic is the balance jet in the location I found it, at the bottom of the tube.
When I tried to unscrew the balance jet, it just came loose, screwed into a brass cone.
Now everything is clean, the cone just rattles and is loose, sitting where I found it.

Am I missing some parts?
Thanks.

Re: Taylors 29 warmer

Hi Spot,
Yes I've watched this and a few other others . The bit I'm interested in is the balance jet. Its not covered in this video, it sits under the burner.
Also, my set up is slightly different to the one in the video.
Thanks for your help.

I have replaced the balance jet with some fine gage brass mesh. You can make a bunch of disks or roll it into a cylinder.

Without the balance jet the burner may “pump” or may not.

If you get any problem kero then the balance jet can clog up fast and is not easy to clean. Hence the alternative.

Funny, I have never seen one of those “filters” before. I have had 13 burners apart and never seen one. Never seen one for sale on Spares and they have everything. Looks like some kind of fabric.

I wonder if you still need the balancing jet it you have the filter.

Re: Taylors 29 warmer

Hi hpeer,
The balance jet is screwed into the cone on the second photo. Its solid not a filter or porous material. I thought i would find a matching taper in the bottom of the vertical tube that the burner screws into. When I drop the cone into the tube, it sits on the bottom and is loose. With the burner screwed in, the cone is still loose.
My first thought is that something is missing.

Hi hpper,
In the past I have used the mesh tightly rolled and inserted into the bottom of the burner, but only on the newer type of burners, the 2 leg cast ones. Its recommended that you remove the balance jet when you fit the 2 leg burner.

Yes, sounds like you are missing something.

Mine went in the same place, but screwed in.

I have a couple of 2 leg burners but don't use them. I found they take a long time to preheat and then they will cool off too much if turned down to simmer, they will oroduce yellow flames.

The new Hanse burners are the ones to have if you can get them.
