tartan 41

dear all,

i am thinking of purchasing a 1975 tartan 41. it will need a total rerofit stripped gutted new mast and rudder the works.

anyone know what the hull and deck are made of . the hull appears to be a solid laminate can't tell about the deck as this was a quick walk through, trying to build up some ethusiamsam.

your answres back are apreciated

Hull is solid, deck is cored. Very nice older boat that really sails nice. Typical S&S design of that era.

Re: tartan 41

It's my understanding that at least a portion of the hull was balsa cored. That's from memory but have no first person experience with the boat. Would want a definitive answer if a cored hull will make a difference to you.

Some T41's had issues with core rot in the decks. If this boat is one of them, would want them to pay me to take the shell off their hands. The time and money to take care of the deck issues would be way more than a gutted hull without the rig and rudder would be worth.

Re: tartan 41

Expect some core issues where the chain plates go through the de k and along the Genoa tracks.

If you bring her back, expect to turn heads. NOTHING looks as sharp as an S&S design. But I am admittedly prejudice.

Also check the Tartan group on yahoo- some solid Tartan info there
