swing keel for gib-sea 32

Have recently bought a gib-sea 32 minus its swing keel. Well I have the plans for a new one, laser cut.
I have been given the option of steel plate or stainless, not sure which type to go for. Size spec is 12mm thick at approx 98kgs.
Any thoughts welcome

Tony

Steel plate is going to rust. In and out of the water. 24/7/365. Even if you paint it.

I had a centerboard made for a tartan 43 a few years ago. I had it made in 316ss which was a few hundred more than 304ss. I wouldn't even think of using steel as it will be a constant maint headache.

Great thanks. I just wasn't sure if I had missed some downside of using stainless.
Using ordinary steel is always going to be an ongoing maintenance problem with painting and rusting
Thanks
