Depending on what youre surveying ( eg a 20k boat or a 500k boat) you could probably just fly one in from Aus or NZ. I am sure he would love a few days in Fiji at your cost. Its quiet season in aus atm, you may be able to get one at a good rate.

Re: Surveyors in Fiji Area

Depends on what you mean by "the region". If you mean right around Fiji, some boats are stored at Vunda Pt. Marina for the cyclone season, in keel pits dug in the ground. Problems include, mold, rats, cockroaches. There are two hurricane holes of which I am aware, and usually they are oversubscribed with local boats.

If you are an insured vessel, your insurance may require you to be south of the Tropic of Capricorn during cyclone season. That pretty much means New Zealand or Australia. New Caledonia is too far towards the equator for the ins. co., but some people cyclone over here. There are a couple of protected places within a daysail of Noumea, and two on the east coast, but partly depends (of course) on the vessel's draft.
