Stuffing box packing

A couple quick questions.

For the prop shaft the gap between collar and shaft is 0.225. Do I just order 1/4” and call it a day?

Second, question. Do you recommend square Teflon or Graphtex.

Thanks!

Seasoned millwright showed me a trick. Take 1/4" square packing and slightly flatten with hammer. Insert packing in gland staggering angled joints. When gland nut is tightened, packing will reshape to fill gap. That's how you get 0.25" packing into 0.225" gap. Much easier.

I think they just about covered it. I second Teflon.

Thanks! 3 came out of my propeller stuffing box.

I'm not sure what to do with my rudder stuffing box. I didn't keep good track of the number. It may have had 3, however with 3 the collar will not fully seat on the housing.
