I remember reading that Steve and Linda Dashew installed an
electric range on one of their more recent
boats. If memory serves me correctly they argued that it was not that much
power (or the
power drain was in short bursts).
Does anyone have any details?
Was this just a normal induction range or did they have something special?
Does anyone here use something similar on their
boat?
Is an induction range feasible with a
battery powered system?
BTW: I'm not putting one on my twenty-four footer.
Edit: I just found the induction range articles on SetSail, but I would still love to hear personal comments from you.
"We have been testing an “induction” (magnetic) cooktop on
Wind Horse. In theory, this takes a fraction of the power of conventional
electric units..."
"We’ve been using an induction cook top on
Wind Horse the past six months in lieu of our
propane stove. Between it and the microwave
oven,
propane consumption has been minimal, the
oven being the only consumer now. So how has this worked out? Great! The
electrical consumption is so minimal that we cannot see a difference in our
batteries after three to five days sitting compared to when we were using the propane
stove."
They said this in 2009. I suspect there have been more advanced in this type of range since then.
