Stainless art.

Good day to all.

I just received some stainless bling from my fabricator, and the quality is fantastic.

We're getting ready to install the mast on our "new build" Cat, and needed link plates and a mast base.

The side link plates are designed to allow the cap shrouds and lowers to share a composite chainplate. The lower shroud is at a 7 degree angle from the top shroud, so the 20mm (3/4") stainless had to have a slot cut, then bend the tab, and the slot welded shut.

The bow link plate (20mm stainless) is designed to help spread the load over the entire chainplate, rather than focus the load at the centre.

The mast base (12mm) is designed to mount an Antal Tulip block, on each of the ears. These blocks allow a misalignment of up to 40 degrees, and allow us to clean up the deck. I didn't want a pile of halyard blocks on the deck, so close to the winches, as that runs into alignment issues. The electric winches are only 30cm (1 foot) from the base, as we have a cat with a front "workpit".

The tulip blocks also allow us to use just two blocks, though we have 8 halyards. We'll remove the unused halyards and store them in a nook, while not being used.

Anyway, enjoy the photos.

Paul.

Re: Stainless art.

I have a friend who does stainless artwork too. We asked him about commissioning a piece and he said we probably couldn’t afford it. May have to wait until we sell the boat...

Re: Stainless art.

FWIW, the only pic I see is of a production block made of anodized aluminium... no stainless stuff at all.

Those stainless fabrications remind me of The Emperors New Clothes.

Re: Stainless art.

That's odd, and certainly beyond my skills to correct.

My apologies, I'll try something else... Uploaded from my hard drive...

The Mast base photo, on it's side, was up side up on my hard drive... That's also beyond my ken.

Cheers.
Paul.

Re: Stainless art.

Thanks. I designed them, with some help from my fabricator, Russel metals turned my drawings into a cutting file, and supplied the steel. My fabricator did the rest, adding his knowledge to the mix.

Cheers.
