Servicing a winch

Just finished servicing my two Meissner winches. The one problem I had was that there is a shaft on each side of the winch that holds two gears each. I was unable to get the shaft out so had to unbolt the winch from the boat and knock the shafts out from the underside. Done and all is fine.
I watched a You Tube and noticed that Lewmar has the same type of design. I viewed the maintance on a Ocean 46. For you Lewmar owners, does this pin ever get stuck and what do you have to do? Is it designed with a lip at the top that screw driver can be wedged in and pry the shaft out?
