Scraping antifouling

Hey,

just started removing old antifouling from my boat I recently bought. There were two layers of antifouling previously. Grey, and below it red. Below red antifouling should be primer paint if i am not mistaken... but this surely does not like like primer to me...

Thanks

How old is the boat? Is it fiberglass?

Looks like abraded gelcoat. Might be no primer was used.
If it's a polyester boat, it's a good moment to add an epoxy barrier coat to it.

Scrape all antifouling meticulously off, apply two layers of barrier coat (ideally different colors so you do not miss spots.).

Apply your new antifouling.

Good luck, scraping is hard work, I did it last year on 30m2 of our cat

I think what I am seeing is a patch on that seam made from fiberglass roving. If that's the case, I'm wondering why it needed patching, and why was roving used rather than cloth.

Not sure that's a seam. If there's any tumblehome or other inward curves in the hull shape it won't come out of a one piece mold. They have to use a split mold and that leaves a line down the centerline.

This! Might be that their mold splits along the centerline for release..

Regardless if this boats hull was constructed as one piece or two pieces.....the bottom suggests a barrier coat be applied, as it appears to be roving to my eye ??

Looks like very course sanded gelcoat to me.
But barrier coat sure is a good idea.
