SCAD TM1 Installation

I just got a SCAD TM1 tank level gauge for the new black water tank I'm installing.

I have a couple of electrical questions (mind you electrical is not my forte)

The instructions and the fact that it came with an inline fuse that can be installed in the circuit suggest that it should go direct to the battery.

Does anybody see an issue with that?

Re: SCAD TM1 Installation

Has this got anything to do with your gauge?

I'm like you "electrical is not my forte" but I always thought the inline fuse went on the red (positive) cable but of course it would work equally well on the negative cable.

Is there anything here?

Perhaps. Straight to the battery is the route for items that either need full current (inverter, radio) or that you want to preserve when other power is off (bilge pumps). In line fuses are a pain in the butt when one blows - you have to find it. A possible solution (mine, generally) is to have a fuse bank at the battery for all direct to battery circuits, so they can be found. A tank gauge does not in my book qualify for direct to the battery.

Re: SCAD TM1 Installation

Thank you both for the replies. I spoke to customer service and got some clarity. The inline fuse is a 1 amp fuse. There is nothing preventing me from running it to either the panel or the battery, it just still needs the one amp in-line fuse.

My choice would be to run it to the battery with the in-line fuse pig tail connecting to the battery buss bar so the fuse is easy to find (and easier to wire).

or

Wire to the panel and put the in line fuse closer to the monitor, which will be mounted in the counter top of the head. That means the fuse will be hidden under there and need to be remembered if it trips.
