do you have bavaria cast iron keel with Volvo Penta saildrive. do you go on bavaria factory course for ensembles and maintain keel.

epoxy primer don't last on cast iron keel because all earthing is trough keel. factory say 1 coat zinc primer 25% zinc powder content.

this old bavaria is state of art simple maintan.
ussualy best maintaned boat is if you dont touch,if something broke ,change new part and enjoy on vacation.

In the US I would go for this 3-step system as primer, followed by antifouling primer and actual antifouling.

If they have that actual product then I would go for it.

POR stands for Paint Over Rust. It’s pretty good.

Re: Sandblast or power wire brush , keel

I'd go with a good ol' paint stripper. The strongest formulation you can get your hands on. Cheap but most of all easy to get rid of the old antifoul on the cast iron. No dust to deal with to boot.

Re: Sandblast or power wire brush , keel

A wire or abrasive wheel is just going to get a perfect bite into the metal as sand blasting does. I have learned this from the 2 steel boats I built myself. It's not something you are doing everyday. I would sand blast, then immediately prime with a thin layer of Strontium Chromate epoxy, follow with a high build epoxy, then a light sand and bottom paint.

Re: Sandblast or power wire brush , keel

I’ll see what the sand blast quotes bring. Moving the boat to the blasting area and back will be more then half the cost

What are the views

What do you guys recommend as the paint process. ?

Thanks
If you're stripping old bottom paint from steel or iron, a needle gun is probably the fastest and cleanest. See if you can rent one.

Do not use it on any type of plastic or fiberglass!
