San Diego/Long Beach Antifouling

Hi All,
Not sure if anyone could help but I'll try anyway.
I was after any recommendations for a antifouling service in either San Diego or Long Beach .

I know I might be pushing it but.... I was wondering if any one might know what they charge per foot to antifoul a fibreglass boat around that area.

Any info would be a great help.

Cheers

George

In San Diego try:

Aquarius Yacht Services
619.222.4147
Home Page

The going rate for hull cleaning in San Diego is about $1.25/foot.

Long Beach

When we lived in SoCal we always used Marine Shipyard (see Marina Shipyard ) and usually were pleased with their service.

Cheers,

Oops. I guess I misunderstood the original question. I thought WoJo was looking for a dive service.

Boat yards? Driscoll Mission Bay lets you do your own work, or you can hire them.

WoJo - costs are VERY dependant on size. But as a point of comparison: Paint (the good stuff) costs between $200 & $250 usd a gallon (US) from a retailer. IF you intend to DIY, depending on which yard you go to, you could be charged a "corkage" fee of up to 50% to use your OWN PURCHASED paint. If you go to a DIY yard, there is usually no additional fees charged to use your own paint (and in some cases, it may even be cheaper to buy through your DIY yard). There is the hauling out fee and Lay Day(s) fee, along with the splash fee (putting you back in). Often times, they will charge a 're-blocking' fee if you want them to move the blocks and props that are used to keep your boat in place and upright (so that you can paint those covered spots), Clean-up fee, environmental fee, a fee to go pee ... oh wait .. maybe not that one... YET!

Each yard is pretty good about quoting those fees. Some yards will also charge rental for various items (ladders, tools, cleaning equipment, and so on). When they start nick'n you for every little thing, well - word gets about pretty quick and those that care, don't use that yard. There are 6 or 7 yards in the LA to SD areas, that do private boats (also depending on size).

Now might be a good time to mention what size (and configuration) is the boat ???

Thanks guys for the antifouling information.I'll be ringing those services and getting prices.

On a second note. what would it cost to get someone to derig a keel stepped mast off a 30' catalina sloop.

Much appreciated for the help.

Cheers
