Rule Dry Bilge Pump - how does it work?

Rule has a small bilge pump marketed as the Dry Bilge Pump which is supposed to draw down the bilge water to 1/8”. Seems like a good option for my keel well since it appears to be a remote bilge pump with just a 3/4” hose at the bottom of the bilge. Magic...I have heard this before.

Does anyone have any experience with this model? How does it detect water or is it a timed bilge pump?

Thanks

i made my own version with a small self priming pump that uses 1/4inch hose- the pickup is a bronze hose fitting screwed into a plastic wall cover originally used for a cable tv coax-the fitting is surrounded by a sponge that serves as a screen.
+ fitting

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sponge

the pump is high and dry and is run with a cheap chinese programable timer from amazon-- it runs3 minutes once a day every day- keeps everything dusty.

I havent used that brand/model but basically it's a diaphragm pump. Vs an impeller pump(needs to be submerged)
Impeller pumps move a lot more water diaphragm pumps last longer and are more reliable. (As long as the filter remains clear)
I like diaphram pumps as the primary with a high flow impeller pump mounted a little higher in the bilge as a secondary.
Edit, just reread your question.
Sorry, iguess you are asking more about how it triggers.
Again, not familiar with that model, but I have seen and used switches that use 2 electrodes. When water touches them both, it connects the circuit.

I made up a small mobile centrifugal bilge pump on the end of 5 ft length timber but that would still leave 2 inches of water in the bilge.

I am now making a mobile manual diaphragm pump which I will test in the next couple of days and I expect that would pump the bilge virtually dry.

This is my "portable bilge pump" which I will use to empty different sections of the bilge as (if) necessary,. It is attached to a ply-board which I will step on and then work the lever.

We have a similar setup, but with an electric pump.
Big advantage of mobile pumps, you drop the suction side overboard and the bilge pump becomes a potent fire pump.

I have a very small 12V centrifugal pump on the end of a stick but it doesn't get the last 1½ inch out.

Hopefully my manual diaphragm pump will pump until it starts slurping. (I think a 12V diaphragm pump would be fine)
