Rudder re-attaching

Removed a rudder from a 7.7 metre bilge keeler. That was relatively easy. I now have it in the cockpit and need to lower it onto the pindles. It is very heavy and I am worried I will lose my grip and drop it into the sea. Is there some way to take the weight of the rudder while I lower it? The only places I can see to attach a rope seem to be the cutouts and I cannot see a way of using these as the have to slot onto the pindles.

Keith... The rudder should be pretty close to neutrally buoyant if this helps ease your mind.... Stern hung? Any way you could post a few pictures?

Re: Rudder re-attaching

Grab hold using C-clamps and heavy plywood to spread the load.
