Restoring Interior Wood

Hello All,
I'd like to restore the wood on the interior of my Tartan 34C but I'd like to keep it simple meaning I don't want to use varnish or any kind of poly. I'd like to use some kind of oil that I can just apply and keep a satin look instead of gloss.

I'd like to keep the wood looking light however and would rather not try to stain it, etc...

Any recommendations?

We've used teak oil and it looks fine. Perhaps a bit of a gloss but not much.

Your going to think I'm nuts, but try this. It's rubbed in with your fingers and is oil based, but dries like a varnish and is as durable as it gets. Get some at Walmart's sporting goods section and try it on a few scraps or wood, then buy it by the Qt. online, A Qt will cover an enormous amount, can't think like paint with this.

Obviously try it on scraps or wood first

It dries to a high gloss, you can easily then take "rotten stone" or 0000 steel wool and polish it to a satin finish if you don't like the gloss.

Have A look at the sikens range of products
Easy to apply & easy to recoat & touch up.
It used to be known as cetol
I use it on my teak deck (hls & anti slip)
Lasts more than 1yr in full sun will last better
inside, they have multiple different products

Wipe the interior wood down with Lemon oil, easy to do, your wood will look great, it is inexpensive as well, we just did our interior would this past weekend.

Dalys seafin teak oil.$27 for a can. By far the best in my opinion .

Be careful of using natural oils, although some give a beautiful finish, I believe some can support mold growth

According to myth and rumor lemon oil supposedly inhibits mold growth,

Daly's Sea Fin is good. One thing to remember, interior varnishing is a rare occasion. If you do it on your boat it wont be due again for probably 10-15 years.
I recently used a Formby's "rubbed oil Finish" product on raw wood that was great. This wasn't a marine application though.


The Formby's product was a lot like Sea Fin, but thicker. Sea Fin can be a little sticky for a while.


If your finish is good now, I'd just use Lemon Pledge!

Lemon oil is great as well, does not attract molds.

Not to sure of pledge, as it contains a lot of wax.
But for furniture it's good, I do not believe it penetrates as well as oil.

Yeah, doesn't penetrate really. Not waxy though. I've used on my guitars for 40+ years. It cleans sweat grime etc off real well. I wouldn't call it a finish though. I wouldn't use it if planning on refinishing either.

If you use oil on top of varnish it will not work.
In my opinion what you use to maintain depends what is the wood coated with now... or are you planning to sand everything?
