Re: Remove Aluminium Oxide, but not Aluminium ?

I have aluminium oxide embedded in my teak bulkhead from the aluminium backing plates reacting to the stainless bolts.
I got the oxide off the backing plates using a combo of muratic acid and clr. Nasty, but it worked.
My brother suggested vinegar for the teak. What do you think? Got a better idea?

Re: Remove Aluminium Oxide, but not Aluminium ?

Never seen corrosion of aluminum mated to ss. When I applied Tef-Gel prior to assemble.

Re: Remove Aluminium Oxide, but not Aluminium ?

Tefgel, Duralac, and automotive anti-seize (a grease with aluminum tiny bits in it) all seem to work pretty well for s/s into aluminum.

Doesn't help the OP separate his ally stanchions from their bases. How about replacing with s/s? Will look nicer, and relatively trouble free, and someone offered him a set of 6, which should get him part way there.
