Refit of 2006 boat

I recently purchased a 2006 Nordship 40ds. Love the boat. Doña Marinita seems to be telling me she needs some preventative maintenance. The boat was very lightly used and had only 800 hours on the engine. I don't want to have problems. I plan on :

1) Adjusting the valves
2) Replacing the seals on the saildrive
3) Replacing the saildrive gasket
4) Replacing the impeller
5) Replacing the belt
6) Replacing the rear main seal
7)Replacing the mixing elbow
8)Inspecting the heat exchanger

What I am unsure of is whether or not to replace rubber parts such as:

Engine hoses
Motor mounts
Fuel lines

And what about the

Water pump
Through hulls

Thee standing rigging, the sails, and the running rigging have all been replaced.

Does anyone have a list of what to replace after a boat turns 18?

Replace the rubber cuffs (short shaped hoses between the block and heat exchangers) these can fail unexpectedly and are awkward to replace on the run. These tend to be engine specific so buy some spares.

Replacement of other hoses depends on their condition check for cracks and flexibility (not gone stiff). Just keep some spare hose of the same diameter on board.

Unless they have cracked or there is a problem motor mounts can last almost indefinitely.

Most fuel lines have date stamps but again check for cracks and flexibility.

Replace water pump impellers and buy some spares.

Don't forget the pencil anode in the engine.

In my experience most boat equipment lasts about 10 years so everything will eventually need replacing even the skipper.

Thanks GordMay, I appreciate the links. Very helpful.

Re: Refit of 2006 boat

After that amount of time anything rubber I would replace. Probably would not do rear main seal of engine unless everything else is apart and it is easy to get to. Replace the hoses for the head, they are past their shelf life. Likewise any joker valves and any rubber components of bilge pumps. Raw water impeller Personally I would (and did on my boat ) replace every single hose below waterline and put new high quality double hose clamps on. Take a hard look at shore power connections and be sure to lubricate steering and shift/throttle cables. Have fun. 😀😀😀

Also take a look at nav light electrical connections- they tend to corrode. Personally I like to turn everything on in the boat. Max load and then go around with an infrared temp gun looking for wires/connections that are getting too warm. Shows where you have resistance and hidden corrosion. Quick and easy special attention to high amperage load circuits like AC, thrusters, fridge freezers etc. best of luck
