I think I know the answer... but figured before undertaking the
project... to get help from those more experienced .
As the title suggests, I am replacing an older (but working)ST50 tridata speed/depth/temp with separate paddle
wheel for speed and temp, and a separate
depth with a
B&G transducer (DST800) with speed/temp/depth in one.
My original thought was to remove the paddle
wheel and pop the
transducer in. However, thinking about it, the deadrise is pretty steep, so it will be firing at a steep angle and could give erroneous
depth reading.
The depth sending unit is mounted in a fairing and is horizontal to the earth, so the depth is accurate (at least when not heeling!). My original plan was to just abandon this transducer in the
boat
Now I am thinking of installing the new transducer in the
depth sounder location.
My question was will the paddle wheel
work in the horizontal/fairing location? Or would the depth
work firing in a higher deadrise orientation of the paddle wheel?
Also, any way to get the depth transducer out without damaging it so it could be reused later on (it was bedded with 5200)
