Hi, I have a new-to-me Rosborough 245, an 150 hp
outboard powered
monohull about 8000 pounds.
She came with a newer Baystar cylinder and the original older
helm pump.
The
pump is uneven, the
engine drifts from side to side, and the lock to lock turning is excessive for maneuvering, especially when backing. The
steering requires several turns to hold heading.
There doesn't seem to be air in the lines.
I'm guessing the check valves have failed and the pump requires a
rebuild.
I'l also guessing that at 20+ years old, it makes more sense to replace the pump than
rebuild it.
How do I
purchase a pump that will deliver more sensitive response?
Ideally, I like 3 turns or less lock to lock to enable easier
docking.
Since I am likely to replace the pump in any case, I'd like a recommendation of a pump that will move more volume per turn than my present aging pump.
Thank you.
