Rebuilding Lewmar Superhatch

I have a Lewmar size 70 Superhatch and would like to replace the lens. No problem but I suspect I will damage the gasket in the process. Various searches indicate original gasket not available. Anyone done this with a different gasket or approach?

Hmmm. I came up with a gasket supposedly for that hatch on my first try

which leads me to suspect that what I found is actually for something else. Could you add any more identifying informatiion?

OK. I've repaired a few seals for hatches, but not made one from scratch. It goes like this: Wrap the hatch cover in thin kitchen wrap or thin tape. With the old seal in place, spread silicone on the mating surface, with a thick layer wherever there is a tear or foam missing. Press the cover down onto the sticky seal, and leave it until it sets. The kitchen wrap may adhere to the wet silicone, so careful trimming of the renewed seal is in order.

I used them for my gaskets when I rebuilt 2 60's a 20 and 30 ocean series. I installed new plexi and new gaskets. it should be possible to remove the glass with out hurting the gasket. shoot me a PM if you want and I'll send you my writeup with pics.


the 20 and 30's were easy, the 60, the gasket fought me tremendously... if you ae even moderatly arthritic in the you hands finger, its a struggle
