Re-sticking old Treadmaster?

Looks like I might be getting a Trident 24, though not a definately done deal yet.

Quite neglected. Spent more of the first inspection than I should have weeding (mostly moss and lichen, but also some young bramble that I had to leave the roots in of for now.)

Wish I'd taken pictures but I was on a roll.

Its got some non slip deck patches (I'd guess Treadmaster) that are curling up on the upper edges, with moss under.

Can this stuff be re-stuck? (I suppose either after complete removal, or after just cleaning under the loose edges)

Re: Re-sticking old Treadmaster?

A few threads on ybw.com on this topic, , but no real concensus. E.G.

Options appear to be (thickened) epoxy, impact adhesives (Example: Various Bostiks) and polyurethane adhesives, with success and failure reported for all.

Epoxy seems to be specifically a PITA because its low viscosity so the sheets slide around, but that perhaps won't be such an issue if they are already partly stuck down, so that might be the way to go in context. I'd guess a decision might be made on the basis of how clean I can get the surface.

Sikaflex (I think a polyurethane) seems to be the most mentioned brand, and I suppose it might be most tolerant of moisture.

Re: Re-sticking old Treadmaster?

Treadmaster 2 Part Epoxy Adhesive Instructions:

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil and grease. Existing paint, vanish, waxes, polishes, etc., must be removed. Fibreglass, aluminium, and steel surfaces should be lightly abraded, with a nylon scouring pad, and all dust removed.
Prepare the Treadmaster, and deck, before mixing the resin. Transfer the contents of container B into container A, and mix thoroughly until the colour is consistent throughout the mix.
Once mixed, the adhesive must be used without delay - under average environmental conditions a pot life of 20 minutes, in the tin, can be expected. Spreading the adhesive, on to a flat plate after mixing, will extend the useful pot life, by helping to dissipate heat, generated by the curing reaction.
The adhesive should not be used when ambient temperatures are below 10°C or above 30°C.

Apply the adhesive using a serrated scraper, to the underside of the Treadmaster, and to the surface, to which it is to be bonded.
Position the Treadmaster, and carefully roll, from centre to edge, apply pressure to consolidate the adhesive layers, ensuring that no air is trapped between the surfaces.
Once the sheets are in position, they should be weighted down, in order to hold them in position, whilst the adhesive hardens

Where possible, the adhesive should be allowed to extrude, between the edges of adjacent mats, to give a positive seal, against ingress of water.
Excess adhesive should be wiped off promptly, with methylated spirit.
Depending on environmental conditions, the adhesive will begin to set in 2-4 hours, and full strength will be achieved after 24 hours.

Immediately after use, clean tools, mixing vessels, brushes, etc. with methylated spirit.

Re: Re-sticking old Treadmaster?

I reglued with 2 part glue used on PVC dinghies.

It did the job OK.

As always, the patch over and under must be perfectly clean so that the glue has something to stick to.
