Raymarine connections

Hello all. I'm not at my boat its far away.I'm drawing on this from memory and having trouble. There's tons of diagrams and info out there old and new and every time I think Igot figured it out i see somthing that confuses me. ( that's easy). So forgive me for this question bc I do know the info is out there just having trouble nailing g it down in my head.
I have an axiom mfd, it's on the seatalkng network with my acu200 evolution sail pack auto pilot, sonar, electronic windvane, p70s control head, ais, and wireless remote. All this is on the seatalkng network and I'm thinking there is a seatalkng to raynet adapter that plugs into the back axioms only raynet port. Question is I just picked up a rd418 hd 4kw 18" radar dome I'm trying to add to the network. So far I've got the dome and a hs5 network switch. If my memory is correct my seatalkng goes to a raynet adapter that plugs into the back of my axioms only(?) raynet port. With out being able to see it I think my radar connects to the hs5 network switch and from that switch I'll have another raynet to raynet cable from the hs5 to the axiom. But Ill have to unplug my axiom from my seatalk ng network? ( if my memory serves me correctly that it's even connected that way). So I'd assume my seatalkng to raynet adapter that is in the axiom will now go into the hs5 so will the radar and I'll have a third raynet to raynet going from hs5 to axiom? Is this all correct? I guess my confusion is the hs5 network and the seatalkng network can both use the hs5switch? They're not 2 seperate networks?

Re: Raymarine connections

Sorry it's not the hs5 network switch it's the rns5 network switch that I have.

Re: Raymarine connections

Have you confirmed that radar model is compatible. I don’t think it is.

Re: Raymarine connections

Yes from what I've read they are.

Re: Raymarine connections

From what I've read the axiom is compatible with all raymarines radars. But in other places the rd418 hd 4kw 18" listed compatible mfds doesn't list the axiom. I assume because the literature was printed before the axiom line was released?

Re: Raymarine connections

A post in the now closed raymarine forum suggested you are ok. I have an axiom + and there is a separate network connection form the combined power/raynet input. Not sure if same is true for a regular Axiom. Down load the manual from Raymarine and that will address this. If you have two like mine then you can take radar straight in which is what I was told was best way to do it with only one MFD.

Re: Raymarine connections

Soo many connections models it's foolish of me to try this with out looking or knowing. I assumed all axioms were the same just some had no transducer connections. Not sure if I have the plus or not.

Re: Raymarine connections

No, not correct - too many connections to the RNS-5.

We have the same radar, an Axiom+, a HS5, and a SeatalkNG network for all the instruments and autopilot. It looks like the RNS-5 is essentially identical to the HS5 - both use RayNet Ethernet ports (all the ports on the RNS-5 are gigabit, while only one is on the HS5).

Connect your Axiom to the RNS-5 using a RayNet cable from the Axiom’s Network port. Connect the radar to the RNS-5 - it should have a RayNet connector. That’s it, done.

The MFD will also be connected to the SeatalkNG network via its Power / NMEA 2000 port - you will need an adapter cable to connect it to a SeatalkNG port.

There is no direct connection needed between the RNS-5 and your SeatalkNG network as it already has that data via the Raynet connection with the Axiom. They are separate networks networks as far as their connections go (one using SeatalkNG and the other RayNet) but they transmit the same data (NMEA 2000 via Ethernet).
