Quality Push Button Latch

Hi Guys,

I need a few of these :

https://www.amazon.com/Button-Cabine.../dp/B06Y2HNRBQ

The ones I found locally were 99% plastic and looked like they would fall apart. The ones above look slightly better and all metal.

This crowd also looked good quality (even though plastic mechanism): Knob and Ferrule - Timage Marine - UK Quality Boat Fittings & Hardware - Yacht Lighting - Teak Furniture - Marine Audio - Bulkhead Lights

Anyone else have a recommendation?

Cheers

AG

The pictures here look suspiciously similar, a third of the price...

I'm surprised you guys use Amazon because it is a complete failure in Australia: when you have trouble with a seller they don't want to know about it. We use eBay here.

They say that they’re zinc alloy. If they’re not then no issue as AliExpress is excellent at refunds. Free shipping too.

They look good. Just had to purchase one and just went straight to beneteau..... plastic cheap. Think I’ll buy a couple of these for spares.

Thanks!

Re: Quality Push Button Latch

I've installed a bunch of these from about 10 different sources and the Whisperlatch version is the best quality... but still pretty sad for what you pay for them. I've had to replace a few of the Whiperlatch on my own boat after the plastic that holds the return spring broke, but it is still a lower percentage of failure than the cheaper models straight from China, and the chromed brass fo the knob and grommet is beautiful. They are typically around $15 in the US.

I've never seen one that had a metal body, they are all plastic in the mechanism (and where they fail). It's just the knob and surround that is metal on the better quality version.

You really don't want anything that is zinc based since they corrode pretty quick just from salt air.

The first version you linked to on Amazon is all plastic. Read the reviews.

Re: Quality Push Button Latch

"Zinc alloy" is what we used to call "pot metal" in the States. Whatever scrap metal got thrown in the pot and melted down, usually for weights.

I wouldn't use zinc on a boat in salt water. Even salt in the air tears into zinc and turns the surfaces into a great anti-skid texture that is no fun on the hands.

Re: Quality Push Button Latch

I standardised on Southco latch products. Excellent quality. Though I use a pull latch, rather than a push button: https://www.southco.com/en-us/m1-fp
