Portlight Rebed Question

Hello all,
I have a couple of portlights that have minor leaks and ideally would remove them, thoroughly clean up the old caulking, adhesives etc and leave them open for re-install in the spring. I would cover the openings, and the boat itself will be canvas covered. Any problem with these openings being left and exposed to cold temps and moisture in the air over a New England winter? Or better to do each one start to finish before closing up? I am unfamiliar with what materials making up the “layers” in the cabin walls I would be exposing.

Re: Portlight Rebed Question

The openings will be fine over the winter, just be sure no water can enter to ruin your interior. I've used gorilla tape over open ports and other holes in the boat, sometimes for entire New England winters.

I highly recommend the well photographed and explained articles at marinehowto.com/ to learn about how to keep the water on the outside of your boat.
