I have a Union Cutter 36 made in 1986. One of the portlights is leaking so I need to replace the gasket. Does anyone know what type of gasket and what material it should be made of. The second question is: can I measure the depth of the gasket channel without removing the old gasket?
Measure the channel width and go on defender or McMaster Carr and order an appropriate square gasket. Won’t tell you what material, that’s up to you. Bed in something somewhat easy to remove like black 3m 4000, close the portlight and snug it up but not too tight until the sealant sets.
Thank you. Since this is the first replacement that I'll do I'll also looking into what this might be like. It's always good to have several solutions to consider.
Depends on what the originals were installed with. A wire wheel on a dremel works well to get the pieces of old gasket and sealant out. That’s the hard part; more so if you can’t remove the portlight from the frame.
