I don't have gel coat. But yes it stands up well, although I expect there are lots of ingredients besides resin in
gelcoat

Some good info, thanks!
I'm thinking about spraying it on a gravel driveway to stop it getting ruts and hopefully slow down the weeds.
If it holds together 10 years I'd be very happy.

has to be kept out of the sun, but I've never heard anything like that said about polyester.
Does it last well in the sun?

It would take an awful lot of it to be able to bind all the gravel together strongly enough. You're better off pouring concrete.
