Planar Heater Install question

Given the limited distance hot air can be run (manufacturer recommends max 15 feet of duct), mounting the furnace close to the stern locker on a sloop is not a poor choice as half the duct run would be in a space I don't want to heat. Some recommend mounting closer to the main salon and running the exhaust and intake ports up close to the rail. Boats a boxy design with high sides (P365)- Have not sailed it enough to know how likely the rail is to go under or close to under.

Thoughts?
