Pearson 414 keel

Anybody know if the ballast is lead and approximately what weight? We're looking to scrap one wrecked in a cyclone.

Re: Pearson 414 keel

Are you thinking of a Pearson 424? Never heard of a 414.

If it is a 424 then yes the keel is lead, encapsulated in glass. Lead about 3500 Kgs.

Re: Pearson 414 keel

Sorry to hear that. The 424 is a sister ship to my 422. Same rig options, hull and keel but 424 is aft cockpit, 422 is center cockpit.

Any idea which 424, when it wrecked, owner or hull number?

Awfully close skipmac (3500 kgs).
FWIW: SailboatData lists the ballast at 7600 Lbs / 3447 kgs.

I'm not sure what the hull number is. Her name is Dauntless owned by John Turner in Vanuatu. Along with many other boats she was wrecked on March 13th-14th this year during cyclone Pam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Pam

You caught me. I have to confess I was being lazy and typed 3500. Never was that good at touch typing numbers.

But, to get even closer, according to the original brochure from Pearson 7634 lbs or 3470 Kgs. Even that can't be exact since it uses 2.2 lbs to convert lbs to Kgs and we all know that it is much closer to use 2.2046 lbs/Kg.
