Paint on Transducer

Best way to remove bottom paint from a transducer without damaging the lens? Should it even have had bottom paint on it?

Re: Paint on Transducer

I assume you mean a depth sounder transducer. No, it should not have pant on it, but it may not matter. I've mounted them on the inside of the hull in fiberglass boats, using 3M 5200 or epoxy such as Marine Tex, and had them work fine, even through the bottom paint. I sugest that you test it before scraping it.

Yes, depth sounder. Seems to work, the rest of the hull is down to barrier coat and I want to clean that up as well, the lens is all guncked with bottom paint.

Re: Paint on Transducer

Try careful scraping or prying it off with a sharp blade. Remember that you don't have to do it, and damaging it in the process could be expensive.

Yeah, I know the urge, Diane. You've got everything else just so beautiful, and that one place is ucky.
