padlocks for hatches?

Any recommendations for hatch padlocks?

I know boats are vulnerable, but are any locks preferred? I suppose no locks are particularly robust, so maybe the preferred lock is one that doesn't corrode?

preferred lock is one that can be broken without wrecking the companionway hatch boards or doors. A small brass one will do.

Re: padlocks for hatches?

The combo brass and stainless locks always seem to rust up. The all brass models seem to last. I've switched to a key lock on the companion way because the combo jobs all seem to stick eventually and you have hard time finding a good new combo brass lock in the third world.
The breaking and entering thing is a real concern. Our companion way doors are louvered and I sure would not want anyone to kick them. A little tiny brass lock could be wrenched open pretty easy so that is going to far to make easy.
The best lock we have is the one for the dink engine. It's one of those stainless steel circular jobs with no shackle showing. It never seems to stop working.
