Re: Ozone Generators - pros/cons

Ozone can inactivate (kill) almost every microbe on earth.
It can change the molecular structure of every cell in your body.
You want to breathe this stuff? At any level? Are you serious?
The New England Journal of Medicine. 18 year long study of 1/2 million people.
Long term, low levels are lethal.
At 104 parts per BILLION, the risk of death is DOUBLE.
You can easily find the LD 50 values of ozone for three species of rats, online.
I’m not a rat.
Happy trails to you kimosabi.

My wife had virtually no immune system. Mold or fungus on the boat would have killed her. We lived onboard from 94' till she passed in 2015. We ran an ozone generator for 4-5hrs per week (while we were off the boat). It greatly extended her life. A tooth infection caused her passing.

Re: Ozone Generators - pros/cons

Sometimes it is hard to believe people think we run ozone while IN the boat. But posts seem pretty apparent that they do.

Re: Ozone Generators - pros/cons

I never quite understand the extreme reactions supporter and detractors of ozone put forth on these forums. Well, usually the detractors are the most extreme with death and doom.

Ozone in itself is present in our environment. It serves both good and bad functions. Whether is it good or bad depends on where it is and what the concentration is.

Using ozone as a tool with a ozone generator is very effective at removing odors and for killing molds and fungus but comes with some risks. Be aware of the risks and take precautions. It is pretty much that simple.

By way of comparison, welding is very dangerous. Poisonous gasses, risks of burns, electrocution, and blindness, yet people weld every day.

Muriatic acid is very dangerous. Risks of chemical burns, blindness, lung damage from fumes, chemical attack of metals and so on, yet used for cleaning concrete, removing rust, chemically PH balancing pools or ponds are appropriate uses for this acid.

I have used ozone for cleaning my boats for over 30 years and my DNA is still intact. It is a great tool for eliminating any "boat smell". As others have said, just have it running while you are not on the boat.
