Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I wanted to replace the propane stove top in my boat, and I recently found a good deal on a used Origo 3000 stove. I was actually considering buying a new one. However, it appears that Dometic has discontinued the entire line of Origo stoves! I find this strange as I know they enjoy great popularity among many boaters.
Does anyone know why Dometic discontinued these stoves? Will someone else make/distribute them?

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I suspect it is because they last forever, not enough profit in high quality products that last, our Origo two burner stove is going on forty-three years old, it’s been flawless, and we are the third or forth owners.

Wow, that sucks, we had planned to install an Origo 6000 by 2021.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I believe it is the availability of alcohol. A well designed alcohol stove (like Origo) running on unscented ethyl alcohol is close to perfect. Then people started drinking the alcohol, and most countries came up with a way to block this by adding methyl alcohol then the strong scent to indicate it is not good. Most people do not like the smell. Sad. I am keeping mine for now, running on fireplace alcohol which does not smell.

I have used denatured alcohol in my Origo stove for 20 years. No odor at all, while cooking. Not sure what you are talking about.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
We replaced our CNG stove/oven with a 6000 and love it. I've never noticed a smell when it is lit. Did they just stop making the 3000?
West Marine still has the 6000:

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I had similar trouble when I wanted to buy a new origo a couple years ago. I found that they are selling the exact same stove, but under the name COOKMATE. Seriously, same stove, same manufacturing plant, just some legal issue or something required a name change.
However, now it looks like ORIGO is once again available in Canada: https://www.marineoutfitters.ca/inde...=7392991001085
Whatever its called...great stove!

I use methyl hydrate from the paint department of most hardware stores. Never any issues or smell. 4 litres usually costs about the same as 1 litre. I've seen fancy stove alcohol at the boat stores for much higher prices, sometimes coloured blue so you see the flame more easily in daylight. For the origo stove, the fuel does NOT need to be filtered or extremely pure.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I will
NEVER
EVER
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
buy a Dometic stove again.
We have a Dometic two burner with oven - the narrow model.
It is the worst piece of gear I have bought for our boat in last 5 years or so.
It is only 4 years old and it is falling apart. 2 / 3 flame sensor have failed. And it has apparently no insulation at all (if I were to judge by how it burns the sides of the stove well). The knobs and handles get too hot to operate. It has pan holders in all the wrong places an these fall out at random too. Etc etc etc.
There is this bad word that refers to defecation and this word precisely describes our Dometic stove.
German quality HA HA HA.
End of rant,
Cheers,
b.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I hope this is exactly the reason why they stopped making this piece of stove.

I replaced the cooktop on my seaward electric stove with a 2 burner Origo 4000, works great going on 3 years. wish I had done it sooner.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
We run denatured alcohol in our Origo as well, never a problem, can be purchased in all number of hardware stores in America and the Bahamas, likely many other locales as well.
Should be able to use Cookmate replacement parts from what I have heard.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
Hmm. Not sure about drinking denatured alcohol! I get it next to turpentine in the paint section at Walmart!
My 2 burner Origo is from 1989 as is my boat. Never a problem. Sad to know they appear to be discontinued.
I’d buy another for the next boat
