Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I have an Origo 3000 on my little trimaran. I also have a carbon monoxide detector.
The Origo cooks well, but with one burner running at half-tilt, CO levels get over 50 ppm in 5 minutes. DO NOT RUN AN ORIGO WITHOUT A CO DETECTOR! I use it, but I'm careful to keep the cabin very very well ventilated.
Perhaps it's typical of corporations to silently withdraw a potentially deadly product and not tell you how it's dangerous, but I don't understand why failing to recall the stove that they know can kill people wouldn't expose them to liability. Stupid legal systems.
Fair-weather cruisers have good reason to love this stove: it's simple and it works well, and if the windows are wide wide open it won't cause much brain damage.

I have an F-24, like to sail all winter, so I came up with this solution. A vented heater based on the stove that you can also cook with. Cheap too. Heats the small cabin in 10-15 minutes.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I have heard that Origo cookers have rubber parts.
If these break; Are those parts easy to repair yourself?
I don't remember what parts people were talking about.
But I did read that Origo stoves have rubber lids and feet.
Allready thanks for the answers.

I don't remember the feet, but the round metal cover that swings over the alcohol container opening controlling the amount of flame is not vapor tight when it completely covers the opening. So when the stove is off and has cooled you put a round piece of rubber over the top of the opening on the alcohol container which is held in place by the controller. Any piece of rubber that covers the opening that is the appropriate thickness should work.

On my 1500 (one burner), there is only the 'rubber' cover for the fuel canister. There are no feet. I will make this myself if I need a new one from an alcohol-resistant material.
The other accessories are getting more expensive too.

How is that specific to origo?
In fact, propane stoves are dangerous to use indoors and really borderline on ppm for NOx
The only real solution for alcohol or gas I can see (please add more)
1) cook outside
2) use catalytic stove (more efficient as well)
3) use flue
4) use scuba gear while cooking
As for origo itself:a waste of fuel. Because the stove is a heatsink. Compare fuel consumption to backpacking alcohol stoves and it uses about twice as much to do the same thing.

No rubber on mine, BUT I did add sheets of thin high temp silicon to cover the tanks when I am done cooking to prevent evaporation. I am pretty sure the silicon sheets will outlive me, as will the stove. I did get a spare tank for my grandchildren though.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
When I ditched CNG I kept the gimbaled stove/oven shell and added an origo 2 burner stove to the top and a combination microwave/convection oven to bottom. We rarely bake on the boat. With a good battery bank and inverter, as well as genset- we may add a portable electric stove to use alternately when genset or engine is running

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
For those searching for Origo 6000, stove oven combo, one just showed up in the local consignment shop in very good condition. If I had the right space for it I’d probably buy it. I have no interest in it but it can be found at mike’s consignment marine shop in Ventura CA. Price on it says $500.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
I recently was gifted a used Origo 3000. I love cooking on it, good heat using Alcohol Fuel from hardware store. Good flame is clearly visible.
Only issue is how quickly the alcohol has been used. I poured almost the whole gallon into them two weeks ago. One is near empty giving me a half flame or smaller. The other one feels like it is at 20%. Based on comments I had expected the fuel to last about a month or so. I am the only user of the stove and not a heavy user..
Have others had evaporation issues and if so, how have you resolved them?

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
Yes, I think originally they came with caps to cover the tanks, but what I have done is get some thin hi temperature silicone sheets from Amazon and I cover my tanks while they are hot right after cooking (then close the top.) Seems to help quite a bit.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??
Also, for those interested, I just saw that the local consignment shop in Ventura,
California, Mike’s Consignment, had two Origo 3000 stoves with pot holders and gimbals.
West Marine sells stove alcohol for $25 a gallon
