Old plywood boat

My dad an uncle built a 15' plywood speedboat back in the 60's it's in our barn and still in fairly good condition, however they glassed over the bottom with matting and resin wich did not stick. I was thinking about resurrecting her one day, and was wondering if any of you had any advice as to what to use to replace their glass job that would be reasonably inexpensive.

Re: Old plywood boat

Here's some links for info...

I used to have a Hal Kelly design hydro.......

IF you have a Mercury 20 HP aluminum O/B with it I'd sure be interested.

Re: Old plywood boat

The current issue of Woodenboat has an article about 3-point hydroplanes that might be good for you to read. Getting polyester resin&fiberglass to stay stuck to wood is a known problem. Epoxy/glass stays attached much better. Fiberglass mat absorbs a lot of resin, so to keep weight and costs down you may want to use cloth instead.
