Re: Nemo underwater hull cleaner drill

Also.....

The biggest issue seems to be the top 12 to 18 inches except the stern. I have used my oil less compressor and a cheap dive regulator but most of the scraping didn't require it.

Coppercoat comes to mind.

Even the racing boats don't generally just put nothing (except maybe a dry sailed J24 type boat which gets hauled back out everyday - even they normally use McLube or some type of polish)

I was thinking the same: should be great in combination with Coppercoat, which lasts 4-8 years or so, but requires frequent, relatively light scrubbing.

The Nemo appears to be simply a repurposed angle grinder. If you want a hull cleaning tool that was designed from the ground up to do that job and is the choice of hundreds of professional hull divers all over the world, you want the Remora Solo. The price points are very similar as well.

A decision you would come to regret, I assure you. Proper maintenance of your wetted hull surfaces requires two things- anti fouling paint and regular (and hopefully gentle) in-water cleaning. This is just the nature of the beast.

Re: Nemo underwater hull cleaner drill

In 2014 we installed a Ultrasonic Antifouling System while we were in Mexico, we are now back up in the PNW (US / Canada west coast border area). Since 2014 we hauled out once for survey when a wash removed the soft growth and did a light touch up of bottom paint; last year we hauled out and did two coats of bottom paint again with only minor prep.

The ultrasonic does not keep the prop or transducers clean so those are dived on periodically for clean up and zincs. We have a 50’ft FD12 and installed 4 ultrasonic thumpers (as we all them) for a cost less than the tool you are looking at.

Fair winds,
and, keeping with the theme of this post and another I was just reading on bidets vs toilet paper, clean bottoms.

Re: Nemo underwater hull cleaner drill

For that price I could get a professional diver to soft clean my hull every 3 months for the next 10 years! Really!!

Not this professional diver, you couldn’t.

Re: Nemo underwater hull cleaner drill

And, a bottom clean only once every 3 months... ?

I don't think that would be enough in a lot of locations, and certainly not if you want a properly clean, fast, hull.
