The issue with the freezer box is it is an odd shape due to it is against the hull. We looked at smaller plates, but Rich does not think they will work.
How about swapping the fridge and freezer locations . Nobody ever has to much room for ice-cream

Re: Need to replace my refridgerator

My 9 year old Adler Barbour unit failed after 9 years, compressor, I am very sure after several tests. I decided to replace it myself.

My box is well insulated 3.5 CU with a small freezer inside the evaporator unit.

I bought:
Dometic CU-85 CoolMatic 80 Series Condensing Unit – Air Cooled
Electronic unit BD35F 101N0650- From West Marine
VD09- Dometic VD-09 CoolMatic 80 Series Evaporating Unit-From Defender
Thermostat unit supplied with the VD-09 (blue knob)
Adler Barbour / Dometic Replacement Thermostat From Defender

Total price under $1100 plus shipping

I might have been able to live with just the compressor, which I determined was faulty, but I was unsure that the refrigerant connections would be the same from my old unit.

I did the install myself in a day, after adding some more insulation where there were gaps while the unit was shipped.

The biggest problem I ran into was not following the instructions for the thermostat installation exactly. Since I corrected that it has worked perfectly for three years, (with a 5 second shot of R134A after 6 months and another after three years. I guess I have a small leak somewhere).

The freezer (which has is closed top and bottom) sits at about 7 degrees F. I make ice in about 12 hours. I can keep about 15-20 frozen meat meals plus ice for my drinks and 1/3 kilo unground coffee beans in the freezer. The rest of the box sits at about 30-40 degrees.

In hot and humid climates it uses about 60-75AH daily, less in cold water.

PS: Two improvements which increased the efficiency were:
  • I added a second 4" computer fan on the Condenser Coil
  • I leave the cabinet door where the unit is installed open in hot times, at anchor or at the dock.

These two things allow more air and cooler air to flow over the condenser.

Re: Need to replace my refridgerator

FYI

This topic shows the diagnostics and repair of my Danfoss refrigerator.

In my case the controller went bad, was replaced and normal operation was restored.
