Re: Most Useful Repair Stuff to Carry on Board
Nerf footballs and basketballs (balls of all sizes can be found cheap or just lying around) can be used as bungs to temporarily slow water ingress. Shove'em in tight and they work pretty well.
Plumbers putty for gasketing...roofing cement will work too
Drywall screws for thin plywood patches on fiberglass driven by cordless drill. Putty for gasket.
Misc lengths of wire with alligator clips crimped on for bypassing bad wiring or troubleshooting.

Cat - very handy in areas where ciguatera is suspected (and my apologies to the cat friendly folk on board but it is already covered nicely in Wiki).

Clamptite tool and ss wire ( ClampTite - The Official Website | ClampTite | tools | business opportunity)
I never leave the dock without it. Use this along with the duct tape and marine tex to fix anything on the boat including the dog.

A small electric pump. On my old Renault eng, I had a complete failure of the dual imppellers. I removed the old impellers from the impeller chamber and put the pump between the raw water intake and the impeller chamber. It worked great....being able to fix almost anything is a huge advantage, on any boat.....I concur knowledge, a little common sense work well Red

Kneepads. I Mcguyvered some with duct tape and socks. Or just buy them dammit. I did and I always fly to my cruise with them and use them every single time.

Re: Most Useful Repair Stuff to Carry on Board
The epoxy sticks with the hardener on the outside and resin inside work great for sealing small and major leaks. Easy to use and not messy as the two part liquid systems. New Pig is the brand I like and they have just about one for any use, from below water to metal repairs. I keep telling these people they are missing the boat (literally) not being at boat shows. There big customers are industrial and that was where I first used these products. They will sell to consumers also. Try www.newpig.com/us/facility.../patch.../pig-repair-putties/ for more info and pricing.

Digital volt/ohm/ammeter; a good razor sharp hunting knife in a leather sheath; mechanical grabber for retrieving things that fall down into the bilge.

Re: Most Useful Repair Stuff to Carry on Board
Plastic Bags. Not only do they let you carry groceries and other stuff to and from the boat and can then be used as garbage bags on board. But, let's say that an unmarked jetty that is underwater at high tide was not where you thought it might be and you boat pitchpoled on top of it. Causing a 4 inch horizontal gash that starts pouring water into the boat. The crack is too small and the wrong shape for a round bung. A bunch of plastic grocery bags stuffed into the opening will stop the leak until the next morning when you can get the boat pulled. Assuming this happened on a Sunday night when the boatyard was closed.

Zip-Lok bags of different sizes work well for nuts & bolts etc. as well as leftover foods.
