Morgan 34 centerboard play

When sailing down wind my 500 pound bronze centerboard wobbles from side to side. I pulled the boat and have taken the brackets off that hold the pivot pin. Most of the play seems to be because the holes in the brackets are about an 1/8 th inch bigger in diameter than the pin. There really isn't any sign of wear on the pin or brackets. My question is, while it seems unlikely, is it possible that Charlie Morgan intended for the board to be this loose? My I inclination is to have a machine shop put bushings in the brackets but maybe it should be left as is. Any ideas?

Are you sailing downwind with the board down?? The board on my Pearson is sloppy in the trunk with a bunch of slop at the pin. The board requires side loading from the water not to rattle around. Definitely not designed to be used except where there is lee way. Board is silent when it is up.

Re: Morgan 34 centerboard play

Yes it does show up only sailing down wind. I don't normally have the board down on that point of sail but if I have been close hauled and turn down for a short time I don't raise the board. It takes 150 cranks from down to all the way up. I'm thinking this must be a normal situation. Thanks for your response.
