Micron 66 over copper epoxy.....

Substrate= 2kg/l of Cu 325 mesh powder in west 205.
Overcoat to do= Micron 66

Any body done this without using a sealer/tie coat?
Yeah, test panel. Nah, don't have time.

Reason being I figure the experts International/Hempel/Jotun/3M will have perfected the slippery paint/stick on film in the current cycle and it will just be more crap to grind off.

On a previous boat we had copper powder based epoxy and wanted to over paint with micron 66 after 7 years. The guy from International paints came out and said we needed to prime with Interprotect. This was in 2008. Never had a problem with Micron not sticking.

So, you painted straight over the coppercoat, without the interprotect?

The rep told me exactly the same thing, but I suspected he just wanted to sell me IP. Can't blame him for that. If you have skin in the game you just tell people what works, and leave speculation.
I'd rather keep the coppercoat, abraid thoroughly and have it as a base for
M66.

Interprotect is epoxy so there's no sense to coat epoxy With epoxy unless there's some fairing involved.

Sorry, we did put the primer on as the painters would not warranty their work if we did not prime as recommended by the manufacturer. I did not see any harm in having an extra layer of epoxy adding to existing barrier, cost was not much more from memory.

No fairing.
Just wondered if the eventual corrosion of the copper would blow the M66 off.
I guess no-one would paint over there ground plate if they wanted it to ground!
Perhaps there is enough epoxy in the matrix for the acrylic to latch onto.

I don't remember what it was, but we put standard ablative bottom paint over the actual copper epoxy product (not a homebrew) some years ago. Just did a rough sanding first to give it some tooth, had no problems with sloughing or anything. YMMV. Sanding it important to get a physical binding. How a particular resin binds to a particular bottom paint..."probably".
