Re the need for a track for the outhaul:

Many race boats (and my cruising boat) now use a webbing strop around the boom end, coupled to the clew and to the outhaul tackle. This is much stronger than any track and car combination, costs little and works well. It would be very easy to do on your new boom.

Eddie, I don't have any photos of mine... never occurred to me to take one! If I can get my failing brain to remember, I'll take one next time I have the main up (we've been having a lot of leisurely genoa only downwind sails in strong trades). But meanwhile, I bet some googling with clew strop outhaul, etc as search words will garner some pro photos. It is somethingthat the amateur sailor can easily make themselves out of two inch nylon or dacron webbing and a couple of s/s rings and shackles. Actually, on a 26 foot boat, smaller webbing would likely do fine, or even a few turns of dyneema line which is strong and slippery.

I'll try to remember...

Jim

Well, whaddyaknow?? I remembered!'

What you see is the boom (fancy that!) the spectra webbing strop around the boom, going through a s/s D-ring, the outhaul shackled to the d-ring and the clew of the sail shackled to the other side of the D-ring... The strop takes all the vertical load from the sail, and the outhaul positions it along the boom.
the other lines are reefing outhaul lines.

Hope this helps explain the system to you, Eddie.

Jim

Re: MacGregor 26s boom needed

The cal 20 boom is roughly 2.5" x 3 3/8". I say roughly cause I measured it with a fish ruler that is only marked every 1/2 inch. But that will be close.

Sweet. I've not seen that type of set up prior. Looks like it would be an option for me. Thank you. Jim

Fiveslide.
I don't know why this would not work. I'll PM you to see if we can proceed.
Thank you.
