low davits

Stealing this guy's idea for dinghy davits... with solar mounted instead of the wood slats. BUT, how low is TOO low to place solar panel aft of boat? Would following seas take it out?

Re: low davits

The “Lorcha” davits pictured here < parker2 > seem high enough, to my (nearly blind) eye, especially with a hanging dink protecting the solar platform.
Of course, higher (to a point) is generally better - more protected, and more solar "visible".

that's the ones! I should say my boat doesn't have the freeboard of that 50-footer... and a transom hung rudder. But they aren't as high and (IMHO) so obnoxiously tall. Just worried about that following sea taking out the solar panel.

Re: low davits

People with yawls and ketchs have relatively low davit...doesn't seem to be a big issue, of course the higher the better.
