Long Term Storage in Tropical Climate

I am looking for advice, checklists, lessons learned etc. regarding storing a sailboat on the hard in a warm humid climate. We will haul our Leopard 42 JAMU and leave her for 7 months in Honduras. I will clean her thoroughly, empty the water tanks, treat my diesel with biocide, run heater-type dehumidifiers, use solar ventilators for air exchange and cover the decks with tarps. What else should be done?

Joe,

I've stored mine in Grenada and Antigua, and only have one solar powered Nicro vent going, in the head. After four months, there's a little bit of mold in the inaccessible corners, but easily wiped off with white vinegar. If you're concerned, most yards have a service available to open up your boat and air it out on a regular basis, for a price.

La Ceiba? Shove rags in your thru-hulls to keep the bugs out. Other than that, it sounds like you've got it pretty well covered.

We bag all our linens and clothes in plastic with a judicious amount of mothballs in each bag.

Fumigate just before we leave and after we come back
