Thanks rslifkin. This is a very subtle bit of thinking. When combined with the valve idea I'm really strongly leaning toward drainage to bilge.

Have your dealer drill out the limber holes. Most likely they were not drilled during the build. My boat was missing several holes. You should be able to get a schematic of the drainage system.

You can't just add a drain directly from the locker overboard? Seems that keeping it self-draining, without interacting with the rest of the boat, would be easy. Certainly easier than running a connecting tube for limber holes.

If it is under the V berth it is probably below the waterline.

The valve is a good idea but overkill. Drill a hole the size of a PVC female threaded pipe adapter. Epoxy it in place (rough up the PVC so epoxy will stick to it). Either screw in a plug to keep it sealed or have a plug handy to seal it if needed. A one dollar solution.

If you choose to just drill a hole be sure to paint the hole with epoxy or some waterproof paint to prevent rot.

Limber hole's are a good idea, generally speaking my experience has been over the year's they are to small, and get plugged up with crud, the chain idea works well, but corrosion is a problem [metal laying in the bilge], i have found tying knot's in a line [3/16 or 1/4] works well, then attach a bungee cord to one end, to clear the limber hole, just pull on one end, the bungee allows it to be pulled back and forth.
