Lewmar Hatches

I have Lewmar #30 Low Profile hatches, likely the same vintage as the boat, 1996. Although the glass is a little crazed, my problem is two failures of the welding just beside the hinges. The hatch closes, locks, but leaks when I take the big ones over the bow. Anyone know if this can be fixed and the window reassembled? who and where? Main problem is the hatches and boat are in the Caribbean.

Here is a pic of my failed 1996 #30 Lewmar low profile hatch. I am quite aware that Lewmar has improved the design, and that the weld, close to the hinge, is a thing of the past . I paid $500 US and worked 2 days to replace this window. Can this be fixed? I have sent this same image to AtkinsHoyle, to see what they have to say. If there is anywhere else I should contact, please let me know.

I would guess that it could be welded with a good aluminum welder. But the price won't justify it IMO. Replace it and keep the glass for a future need.

I guess I agree with you, bobfnbw, and will just strip it and chuck it.

BTW, AtkinsHoyle did not respond to my numerous emails and pictures.

Call them. When I did, It rang for a while, some one picked up, gave me another number to call, I let it ring for a while and then they picked up. I guess working in the shop makes it hard to hear the phone. My impression is its a 2 man show. These days its hard to justify the extra help to man the phones. So try the phone and let it ring a while.

I would like to get some opinions on my hatch situation. I removed 3 27'' Bomar hatches (that I believe to be original to an 1986 boat) in anticipation of painting the topsides. I would consider them to be in average shape considering their age. The lens is not crazed too badly, they were water tight when I removed them, the gaskets are starting to crack,the seal between the lens and frame has pulled away a bit, and the paint on the frame is starting to chip off in a few areas. Would you put them back in and wait until they start leaking, send away to get rebuilt, or buy new hatches?

I'm having a challenge removing the opening portion of my Lewmar OCEAN Hatch. I need some suggestions.

I did the following:
1. Removed the Friction Lever
2. Removed the Plastic Hinge Cover
3. Removed the jacking nut and bolt
4. Slid the plastic barrels to the center

Everything I read says the lid should lift right off. However mine are not. I can see a small pin at each hinge that seems to be keeping me from lifting the lid. It is very loose and I can move it around, but it will not lift off.

Suggestions please.
