Leak Near Rudder Area on Buccaneer 277

Dear All,

I’m experiencing a small but steady leak on my Buccaneer 277 sailboat. I suspect it’s coming from the rudder area. There’s a significant amount of expanding foam in that area, and I’m hesitant to remove it because I’m unsure of its purpose or what lies beneath.

The boat was out of the water about six months ago, and from the outside, everything looked fine around the rudder. However, the leak seems to persist, and I’d like to address it before it worsens.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue or have any advice on how to proceed? Should I remove the foam to inspect the area, or is there another method to pinpoint and fix the source of the leak?

Thank you for any insights or suggestions!

Best regards,
Tilen

Re: Leak Near Rudder Area on Buccaneer 277

It's hard to say anything without knowing what the rudder area looks like from the outside too. I don't see a rudder stock in the picture, so I'm unsure exactly what I'm looking at. Or is the rudder just stern mounted ?

The idea that it's sprayed over with expanding foam would kinda worry me. I would not start digging away unless the boat was out of the water again. It just might be the previous owner covered up a problem and if you uncover it - you could have a bigger leak !

I would look to get a haulout as soon as you can arrange it.
