Leak in Columbia 22

Inside the cabin directly below where the mast meets the deck there is a wire that drips water whenever it rains.

How do I fix this?

Re: Leak in Columbia 22

Are you sure that the wire is the source of the leak? It could be that it is just following it's path to the base of the mast. One possible suggestion is to follow the wire to the top and put sealant around it. If the leak persists it is coming in from somewhere else. You can also try pulling the wire up at the top and putting a small drip loop in it to slow the leak down.

It's dripping off the wire. I don't know where the wire goes.

There is also a bunch of wires pinched between the mast and deck.

Re: Leak in Columbia 22

Pinched wires is never a good thing. It sounds like you've got water either traveling down the mast or leaking in around the base. The 22 is small enough that it should have a deck stepped mast. Next time you bring it down check that anywhere wire enters the mast or any holes are sealed off.

When you re-step try to make sure that nothing is being "pinched" that can cause damage to the wires.

If it isn't deck stepped, it's a bit more work. the process is still the same. That's also a good time to check all of the compression posts, and standing rigging.

Anybody else on here have a Columbia 22 that may be able to help the OP?
