I have a steel hulled, French made Groupe Finot, and I haven't been able to find anyone that's knowledgeable about the fitting for my emergency tiller. I not only want it to work for my passage, but I also want to create an autotiller for solo sailing. Any knowledge or insights on another solution would be kindly appreciated. Thank you for your time CF Community.

Would I be right in assuming that photo is the top of the rudder post?

Well it looks like a taper with a key-way and a lock nut. So there would have to be a female coupling like this.

You'd have to attach arms out from the coupling to give leverage so the shaft can be rotated. Maybe like this?
