Keeping Goiot Round Hatches Open

The round Goiot hatches on our new FP Orana do not stay open in an intermediate position unless you prop them up. I understand that the hinges can be tightened up but this appears to be asking too much for supporting the larger units and does not work over time. We previously chartered a Belize where they had the same ports and they also would not stay open on their own unless flipped right back over.

On our PDQ32 we have nice adjustable supports that allow the hatch to be set at any angle. Has anyone added these supports to the round Goiots? Suggestions?

I have traditional, and rectangle Goiots. They are both adjustable with an allen wrench.........i2f

the hinge needs adjustment once in a wile-takes 5 min.

The hinge adjustment seems to work for the smaller lighter hatches but it seems to be expecting too much of a little friction at the hinge when dealing with the larger units with heavier cast aluminum frames. Given the number of times they have needed adjustment so far I don't see this as a reliable long term solution.

Maybe a wee bit of conversation with a distributor will help? I was just out adjusting a couple of mine yesterday. The adjustments seem to last several years.........i2f

Try contacting Goiot. They may have a support mechanism that can be added. Some of our older style hatches didn't have support rods and sliders either, but we are able to refit them and make it work with new hardware, Goiot might be able to do the same thing.

My hatch frames inside to inside are 22", and they hold up fine?.........i2f
