Keel repairs

Hey all,

This weekend I started to grind out some cracks and the infamous 'smile". For First time doing this.
On the smile I got down close to the steel, and can see where they join. It doesn't seem as bad as I was thinking.
I plan on shooting in some G/Flex in there with a syringe as best I can and filling all the voids up to flush with G/Flex.
I have read and seen on youtube about using 5200 also, but don't want to complicate this.

Re: Keel repairs

You do not want to use 5200 here. You are not gluing the keel on to the boat. The keelbolts hold the keel to the boat. Thickened GFlex seems like it should work, according to what it says on the label. You would probably apply it with a putty knife rather than a syringe. Regular epoxy with micro balloons or other filler mixed in would also work and might be less expensive.
