keel repair

Hit a rock about half way up the leading edge of my keel resulting in a cup size divot into the keel's lead and some delamination of the material covering the keel. Just wondering what specific material(s) I should use to repair it. There appears to be a fiberglass layer covering the lead and then a 1/2 inch thick cement like material over that. The boat is a Sabre 34 mark 1. Thanks

Re: keel repair

Lead fin keels do not usually have a covering of fiberglass or cement like material. Perhaps the keel has been damaged before and covered or filled with filler

Re: keel repair

That is possible. I have e-mailed the Sabre boat owner support person in hopes that he will know exactly what they did to cover the keels in 1983. Thanks

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, gerhadaw.

Indeed.
The Sabre 34 (1976 - 1985) had an external lead ballast, fastened with stainless keel bolts.
